5 places to visit during winter in Nepal for snow

It is a wish fulfillment for most of us to play with fluffy, soft, white and cold snow. It would be a rare opportunity during winter time to play with snow, if it falls nearby Kathmandu valley. Here we have compiled few places around, where you can enjoy snow and create memories for life. And rejuvenate yourself being in the appealing serene beautiful destinations in Nepal.

Phulchoki

 Phulchoki Dada is one of the favorite hills for Kathmanduites during the time of snowfall. Once there is snowfall, snow remains on the northern corner for a couple of days. On other days, being a densely forested hill, it is the popular choice for those who want to hike. It is around 20 kilometers away from Kathmandu. Upon reaching here you can get a bird’s eye view of Kathmandu Valley and get into birds watching too. Along with exploring Godavari Botanical Garden at the foot of the hills on you return trip.

Kalinchok

Hills surround the village on all sides in Kalinchok. A six-hour drive from Kathmandu via Kuri bazaar and Charikot followed by a five-kilometers long hike will get you to Kalinchowk. Kalinchok is famous as pilgrimage site having the shrine of Kalinchok Bhagwati. Moreover, after a snowfall, you can get a lovely sight in Kalinchok. Kalinchowk is said to be one of the safest routes in Nepal to experience snow. While going the uphill trip, you will be welcomed by the aroma of different herbs, plants and wild flowers. Trekking route from Ghyang hill to Kalinchok is a famous route. Once you reach the top, the scenery will give an awe moment. On a clear day, you can get drenched in the stunning view of mountain ranges like Ganesh Himal, Shisha Pangma, Langtang and Gauri Shankar from the temple.

Shivapuri

During winter, snowfall occurs randomly here. It would be better if you find out whether it’s cold enough for snow before you Shivapuri. You will be able to see majestic mountains and snowfall in winter while during spring you can surrender to blooming rhododendrons and beautiful woods. Among all the places starting from the foot of the hill to the peak, it is more likely to snow in the origin of Bagmati River, Bhagdwar.

Daman

Daman is located 75 kilometers southwest of the capital in Makwanpur district. You can get a bus from Kalanki or hike through Pharping to reach Daman. Daman is one of the popular tourist destinations in Nepal having the crystal clear waterfalls, water springs and green hills. Every winter Daman attracts tourists as snowfalls here heavily. Being at an altitude of 2322m above sea level, it is somewhat predictable that there will be snowfall in Daman.

Pun Hill

Pun Hill in Pokhara is trekker’s heaven in autumn and spring. And during winter it can be the destination for seeing snowfall. Pun Hill gets hundreds of trekkers every year and the highlight of the trip is the panoramic view of magnificent peaks. That includes the Annapurna range, Mt. Macchapuchre, and Himchuli to name a few. You will also get to witness unique lifestyles inhabiting in the different regions throughout the trek. All you need is at least five to six days for this trip. The trails are covered in snow only at Ghorepani village that lies at the base of Pun Hill. Though having prospects to have fun in snow, it is advised to be cautious as trekking might get a little risky.
